Tournament Scenarios
The tournament scenario tool allows you to preview tournament formats and estimate match counts and duration before starting your tournament. This helps you plan your tournament schedule and configure the optimal settings for each competition.
What is a Scenario?
A scenario is a simulation of your tournament that shows the total number of matches across all competitions and how long the tournament will take based on your settings. You can test different formats, entry counts, and court configurations to find the optimal setup before committing to your tournament configuration.
Using the Scenario Tool
To access the scenario tool, open your tournament and click the "Scenarios" tab in the tournament navigation. The tool is available when your tournament is in Setup or Entry Open status.
The scenario page shows your tournament summary on the left with total matches and estimated time, plus a breakdown for each competition. On the right, you'll see a settings panel that changes based on what you've selected:
- Tournament summary selected: Configure tournament-level settings (number of courts, minutes per match, minutes between matches)
- Competition selected: Configure competition-specific settings (number of entries, tournament format, format settings)
Each setting that can be reset has a reset button (refresh icon) next to it. The button is always visible but disabled when the setting matches the current saved value.
Applying a Scenario
Once you've configured your scenario settings, click the "Apply scenario" button at the top of the page. A confirmation modal will appear showing all changes that will be applied, with each change displaying the current value → new value.
When you apply a scenario:
- Tournament settings: The number of courts is updated on the tournament session
- Competition settings: Each competition's format and format settings are updated
- Matches: All matches are reset and regenerated based on the new settings
You can apply scenarios when your tournament is in setup status. Once you start the tournament you can no longer apply scenarios.
See the individual format guides (Round Robin, Single Elimination, Swiss/Monrad) for more details on each tournament format.
